Sheriff Doug Gillespie

Sherrif Doug Gillespie

Sheriff Doug Gillespie was born in Abington, Pennsylvania  on August 13, 1958.   He is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology where he graduated in May of 1980 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. 

He is a POST Certified Instructor for the State of Nevada , January of 1988.  He is awarded all levels of Professional Certificates by P.O.S.T. including Intermediate, Advanced, Management, and Executive; and a graduate of the FBI National Academy Graduate 206th Session in 2001. 

Sheriff Gillespie’s multi-faceted career includes many programs he founded such as Friends for Las Vegas K-9 Foundation; SWAT’s Explosive Breaching Program; Friends of Metro Foundation; Founder and Chairman of Metro’s Employee’s Health & Welfare Trust Fund;  and originator of the Executive Leadership Training for LVMPD supervisory employees.  Together, he and Sheriff Young formed the Sheriff’s Multicultural Advisory Committee in 2003.  

He began his law enforcement career with the LVMPD on November 12, 1980 as a PO.  His promotions included Sergeant in 1988, Lieutenant in 1995, Captain in 1998, Commander in 2000, Deputy Chief in 2002, Undersheriff in 2003.  Sheriff Gillespie assumed the position of Sheriff in January of 2007.
